10 Questions on Taiwan Question (Part 8)

【In disregard of China’s solemn position and firm opposition and with the connivance and arrangement of the US government, Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi went ahead with the visit to China’s Taiwan region. This reckless move seriously infringe on China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and severely violated the one-China principle and the three China-US Joint Communiqué. The Chinese government has taken lawful and justified countermeasures to uphold its sovereignty and territorial integrity. However, instead of self-reflection and admitting its mistakes, the US side made absurd remarks and even put the blame on China like a thief crying “Stop thief!” The Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe is going to publish a series of articles to share the truth, introduce China’s clear position and expose lies, so as to set the record straight.】

Q8: Who was extensively supported and who should be condemned by the international community related to the Taiwan Question?

In the wake of Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, over 170 countries have spoken up for justice, condemned the visit as a serious, reckless and irresponsible provocation and expressed their commitment to the one-China principle and support for China’s efforts to uphold sovereignty and territorial integrity, including Zimbabwe. HON. Monica Mutsvangwa, Zimbabwean Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcast Services and government spokesperson said that Zimbabwe stands fully behind the People’s Republic of China in the face of the intrusive and provocative visit by Nancy Pelosi, which seriously violates the one-China principle. We highly appreciate this justice voice and would like to extend our heartfelt thanks.

The fact that so many have spoken up for justice is a clear indication that people in the international community are clear-eyed about the nature and intention of the visit. The visit is an ugly political stunt. It will not change the historical and legal reality that Taiwan belongs to China. It will not stop the reunification course of China and will not change the fact China has the backing from over 160 countries with their population accounting for 80% to 90% of the world’s total. Our shared belief is that countries should be committed to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and the basic norms in international relations. We are all firmly against the attempts to interfere in other countries’ domestic affairs and undermine other countries’ sovereignty and territorial integrity. We are standing on the right side of history and on the side of peace and justice.

In disregard of facts, a handful of countries led by the US falsely claimed that China would be condemned by the international community. They are in no position to represent the global community. Their views only represent a tiny fraction of the world of nations. The US and its handful of “buddies” should realize that if they do respect the principle of democracy, then they should hear and respect the voice of the more than 1.4 billion Chinese people, and also the voice of the people from the countries accounting for close to 90% of the world’s population in non-Western countries.

The Chinese side will firmly safeguard China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, resolutely stop the United States’ attempt to use the Taiwan card to contain China, and firmly shatter the Taiwan authorities’ illusion to pursue Taiwan independence by soliciting the support of the United States. At the same time, we are upholding the international law and the basic norms governing international relations, particularly non-interference in countries’ internal affairs, which is the most important international norm enshrined in the UN Charter. If the principle of non-interference is ignored and discarded, the world will return to the law of the jungle, and the United States will become even more unscrupulous in treating and bullying other countries, especially small and medium-sized countries, from a position of strength. We could not allow that to happen. All countries need to come together to ensure that this will not happen and that humanity will not regress.
