In 2006, professional wrestling promoter Eric Bischoff released a book titled Controversy Creates Cash which debuted at number sixteen on the New York best seller’s list.

The message of the book was crystal clear: there is no such thing as bad publicity.

This seems to be the template that predicated the success of the Itel smartphone on the African continent.

Despite being the butt of online jokes the Itel smartphone has meteorically rose to the summit of smartphone brand penetration in the African market, surpassing perennial heavyweights such as Samsung and Huawei.

Some have said in jest, it’s battery has enough currency to power a fully functional automobile, others have joked that a live bullet simply doesn’t possess enough torque to penetrate let alone pierce an Itel screen.
