A 39-year-old Chitungwiza man, Elias Kabaya was sentenced to eight months in prison for unlawful possession of drugs.
Kabaya who was arrested on September 29 last year following a tip-off to the police was initially sentenced to 20 months in prison before 12 months were wholly suspended on condition of good behaviour.
“On September 29, 2021 detectives from CID drugs and Narcotics acting on tip-off followed Kabaya to Zengeza 5 shopping centre.
“They found him in a shed and conducted a search on his person and found a small white plastic container which had 15 sachets of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine in his right pocket.”The drugs were seized and weighed 4.6063 grams with a street value of ZW18 425,” reads a statement by the National Proaecuting Authority of Zimbabwe. Kabaya’s conviction comes at a time when two other people were convicted for a similar offence. 26 year old Lucia Kamba was sentenced to 12 months in prison while Simbarashe Gonyora will serve 18 months un prison.
