Zimbabwean born mixed martial artist Mike “Blood Diamond” Mathetha will carry the underdog tag when he enters the Ultimate Fighting Championship(UFC) octagon for the first time against the more experienced Jeremiah Wells.

The two will square off on the 12th of February at UFC 271 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

Experience and ring rust are against the Zimbabwean welterweight as he is yet to have a competitive fight since being signed by Dana White’s promotion in 2021.

The 36 year old’s last fight was in February of 2020, a factor which is likely to factor in his debut against the seasoned American, Wells who is ranked 42nd in the world welterweight rankings.

Wells who is on a 3 win streak holds a record 9 wins,2 losses and 1 win inside the steel cage, Mathetha only has 3 bouts which were all victories.

The more experienced Jeremiah Well(pictured)s is expected to be a huge test for the debuting Zimbabwean

However the jury is still out on his strengths or weaknesses. His 3 victories have come by way of a knockout, submission and judge’s decision.

However, Mathetha has the physical advantage over his opponent as he has a longer reach and a slight weight advantage.

He is also likely to receive vital tips from UFC middleweight champion Israel “The Last Stylender” Adesanya who is his stablemate and training partner.

Adesanya will headline UFC 271 where he is set to square off with rival Robert Whittaker for a much awaited rematch.
