More than 415 exhibitors, six of them foreign, have confirmed participation at the 112th Edition of the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show which kicks off today at the Harare Show Grounds and runs until Saturday, September 3.

Yesterday, most exhibitors were putting final touches to their stands and displays.

Miriyoni Tawonga, the ZAS Head of Programmes and Public Affairs, told Review & Mail that the figure has increased from last year’s show, which recorded 398 exhibitors.

“Exhibition categories include Agriproduct, Livestock, Cotton, Tobacco and Micro- enterprise,” he said.

Tawonga said the dignitary who will officially open the annual event this year would be announced as the day approached.

This year’s show will be running under the theme:  “Unique Business Opportunities, Accessibility, and Abundance and the official opening will be on Friday, September 2.

The show will be open to the public, with all show-goers and exhibitors being urged to adhere to the COVID-19 regulations.

“Exhibitors and show-goers will be required to pay attention to the government and WHO regulations. The public is required to wear masks while in enclosed spaces and maintain safe social distance. Halls and gate entrances will have sanitizers for regular hand disinfection. All Halls will be disinfected every day after show hours to ensure the safety of all, said Tawonga.

He said drone surveillance would also be used to monitor and manage the crowds to ensure strict adherence to the Ministry of Health and World Health Organization guidelines.

This is the second show to be held in Harare after the advent of COVID-19 in December 2019.

Last year, the agricultural show, traditionally held in August, was held from September 27 to October 1 due to challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was held under the theme “Synergies for Growth – Cooperate, Collaborate, Compliment” to rally support for the cause of agriculture and attendant value chains for increased “Production, Productivity and Profitability” with a sub-theme, “Celebrating Unprecedented Growth.”
