“From Glenview to the World.” That was a post on social media by French based Zimbabwean basketball player Vitalis Chikoko.
Chikoko made this remarks on the back of being named the Most Valuable Player in the French Cup after his team also won the trophy.
Growing up in a modest household in Glenview Vitalis Chikoko had to show extraordinary grit and perseverance to beat the odds and achieve his goals.
The biggest of them all was to become a professional basketball player and represent his country at the highest level.
His love for basketball goes way back.
In 2011, Chikoko made his break into Europe where he joined a German side called Gottingen.
After one season with Goettingen, Chikoko went to TBB Trier before his journey led him to Italy with Reggio Emilia and Verona.
He moved to France in 2016 to join Pau-Orthez, where he is now enjoying a second dance but before that he also had a stint with FC Bayern Munich in German again.
Chikoko used to play other sports like soccer, cricket and tennis. It was through his friends that he saw himself in the basketball court.
When he used to watch his pals playing that is when he was told by the coach that he had good height for the game and that was it.
After his recent achievements, Chikoko took to social media to celebrate his success.

Chikoko has become a household name in the French Jeep Elite ProA league.
He has earned three successive All-Star nominations in the last three seasons while also being a serious contender for the Jeep Elite ProA Most Valuable Player (MVP) to underline his status as one of the big stars of the French top division.
In 2020, the Chikoko scooped three gongs after being named Player of the Year, Centre of the Year and Cotonou Player of the Year at the EuroBasket All-French ProA 2020 Awards.
